3D scene management consists of several steps that will drive the assets from their first building blocks to the final settings, allowing rendering the scene to a video fit for broadcast.
This tasks consist of breaking down a 2D storyboards into 3D shots, staging every shot and plotting the action that will take place within each scene, and ensuring that everything that is going to be animated is set up properly.
Lighting does a lot to define the mood of a scene. The same environment can appear mundane, mysterious, soothing, or threatening depending on the setup and the type of lights used.
Rendering is the final process of creating the actual 2D image or animation from the prepared scene. This can be compared to taking a photo or filming the scene after the setup is finished in real life. Rendering may take from fractions of a second to days for a single image/frame. In general, different methods are better suited for either photo-realistic rendering, or real-time rendering. That’s why it’s important to setup the scene correctly to get the best rendering time.
