3d Layout
This tasks consist of breaking down a 2D storyboards into 3D shots. One must stage every shot and prepare the action that will take. It’s necessary to use existing sets, add characters and props, and adapt the camer’as point of view to the action. One must also ensure that everything that is going to be animated is set up properly.
3d Lighting
Lighting does a lot to define the mood of a scene. Depending on the setup and the type of lights used, the same environment can appear mundane, mysterious, soothing, or threatening.
3d Rendering
Rendering is the final process of creating the actual 2D image or animation from the prepared 3d scene. This can be compared to taking a photo or filming the scene after the setup is finished in real life. Rendering may take from fractions of a second to hours for a single image/frame. Different methods are better suited for either photo-realistic rendering, or cartoon-like renderings.
What makes photography a strange invention is that its primary raw materials are light and time.
